Conditions

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that typically presents as persistent redness across the cheeks, nose and central face. It affects around 10% of the population and is most common in people with fair skin tones. Although men may experience more severe forms, rosacea often appears in women between the ages of 20 and 50.

The exact cause is not fully understood, but contributing factors may include vascular sensitivity, immune system changes and issues related to the skin barrier. Common triggers include alcohol, irritating skincare products, heat, sun exposure, emotional stress and certain foods.

Before

After

Rosacea is classified into four subtypes based on how it appears:

  • Erythematous-telangiectatic rosacea – Persistent flushing, visible redness and small surface blood vessels.
  • Papulo-pustular rosacea – Often seen in middle-aged women, characterised by redness with spots or pustules.
  • Phymatous rosacea – Thickened or uneven skin texture, most commonly on the nose but can also affect the chin, forehead or eyelids.
  • Ocular rosacea – Affects the eyes, causing discomfort, sensitivity, irritation and redness.

Other causes of facial redness

Several other conditions can also lead to red skin, such as:
• Thread veins
• Broken capillaries
• Facial flushing
• Cherry angiomas
• Red marks left after breakouts (post-inflammatory erythema)

How is Rosacea treated?

A number of options exist for managing rosacea, including topical creams, prescription medication and targeted light-based therapies. At Skin Architect, we offer a range of non-invasive treatments designed to reduce redness, improve skin clarity and help manage flare-ups over time. We also provide medical-grade skincare to support long-term control of sensitivity and inflammation.

Commonly Asked Questions

The correct medical skincare routine can reduce facial redness by approximately 20–30%. However, moderate or severe redness often requires in-clinic treatment, and very severe rosacea may need prescription medication alongside professional care.
